The 2M Alliance consists of two international shipping companies, Maersk Line(Denmark) and Mediterranean Shipping Company (Switzerland). Maersk and MSC announced a 10-year vessel sharing agreement starting in 2014. The 2M Alliance has a total capacity of 2.82 million TEUs, accounting for 11% of global maritime capacity. However, earlier this year, both parties announced their intention to dissolve the alliance, with the termination set for January 2025. It is unclear what the situation will be at that time.
In terms of service, the 2M Alliance offers relatively lower freight rates compared to other shipping companies serving Europe. However, there are some drawbacks associated with their services, such as unpredictable timeliness, lengthy voyages, frequent vessel changes, delays, and uncertain cargo allocations. The routes can be subject to arbitrary changes, leading to many uncertainties.
